How do I trowel EPDM granules on a vertical surface?

Troweling poured in place rubbervertically can be a challenge. There are a few ways to accomplish this:

  • The first way is to trowel the desired area horizontally and then glue it on the vertical surface. A good practice is to trowel on a plastic sheet so tht it is easy to move the cured rubber easily
  • The second way is to create some type of barrier, like a wood plank that is separated fom the vertical area (As in stair risers), filling that space with EPDM mix and removing the plank when the poured rubber cures. You will need to spray the inside of the plank with some type of releasing agent, such as silicone spray so that the plan does not get stuck to the mix. 
  • The easiest way to trowel vertically though is to use a vertical primer. The primer has a thickening agent that, when mixed with an aromatic or aliphatic binder, allows the troweled granules to stay in place vertically.
